Medicinal uses: Calendula is helpful in healing the skin from burns - both kitchen burns and sunburns alike - and wounds. Its antimicrobial properties make it a helpful anti-fungal and a soothing remedy for the gut, especially when taken as a tea. It can also be used externally for fungal infections. Calendula is gentle and soothing - a wonderful remedy for children. A wash or salve may help with diaper rash and inflamed skin, and in cases of eczema and psoriasis. Internally it can bemused for stomach ulcers and may help relieve gallbladder issues.
Preparation & Dosage: The flowers steeped in water for about 10 minutes makes a floral tea that is soothing to the belly. Pour 1 cup of boiling water over 2 tablespoons of calendula flowers. Applying this tea to a towel and using it as a compress on burns, wounds, or inflamed skin speeds up the healing process immensely. A poultice can be used here as well. Tincture (1:5, 60% alcohol), 1-4ml 3x daily.
