Madrone began making medicines in 2016, studying first through the lens of Ayurvedic medicine, then exploring western folk herbalism and medicines offered by the local flora. Madrone spent time work-trading with a local herbalist, learning how to make medicines while reading through Rosemary Gladstar’s home curriculum, by which her mentor was trained. Madrone completed a year long apprenticeship in folk medicine and wise woman ways with Yaya Erin Rivera Merriman and has completed two years of folk medicine and folk magic study with local herbalist Corinne Boyer. Her time spent with these women and in the woods has been and continues to be central to her practice.
Before opening Hedgerow, Madrone crafted medicines at a local Portland based apothecary, where she got the opportunity to practice tincturing and medicine making using a variety of methods. Her times spent this position gave her a range of practical knowledge pertaining to working with herbs for supporting oneself and supporting the community at large.
Madrone values supportive, community centered, and relaxing learning environments. Making simple and effective medicine feels empowering and she is so very happy to share these skills.
